You are the brave

Thank you to all of you who auditioned for Excalibur. It takes a lot of courage to do something so scary and Ms. W and I really enjoyed hearing you. It is my hope that, regardless of next year's placement, all of you who auditioned will find a way to sing. If it truly is a crucial part of your spirit and well-being, as most of you indicated, you owe it to yourself to explore this gift.

Please know that it took much thoughtful deliberation to create this roster. If you have any questions about how to improve for next time, you may ask either one of us and we will share with you some of what we heard. Please wait until the concert is completed before asking.

2012 Solo & Ensemble- Vocal Results

Congratulations on a fine showing at this year's regional contest! Some of our soloists and ensembles are advancing on to the state level of competition, to be held in Ellensburg on April 27- 28. Ensembles will take a charter bus over and back on Friday, but soloists will want to call and try to reserve a hotel room now for Friday night. Solos will sing on Saturday. Alternates do not need to worry about rooms yet- we will notify you if you are accepted as soon as we know!

Here are the state results:

Cade DePhelps- 1st alternate, baritone
Bailee DePhelps- winner, alto
Brandon Root- winner, baritone

More details, including certificates and judges' sheets will be distributed on Monday. Remember- spring schedule... see you then!

Job, Job

Great balance, energy, and a stellar soloist. I will hear auditions for soloists during finals week and think the tonal quality needs to be soulful and fearless like this singer!

Daniel

"Daniel"- our combined Kennedy piece for Benaroya Hall this year, can be found at about 21 minutes into this video. I know it is really boring to watch, but it is conducted by the composer and the group has a pretty good sound. The girl in the center is on the tenor line- don't let that throw you. Listen, then take out your music and practice with it in front of you!

Sweatshirts & Basketball

Remember that all sweatshirt orders must be received on Monday, November 28 when we get back from Thanksgiving break. Make checks payable to the school. Extra forms are on my office door.

Excalibur- Monday night is our sing at the SU basketball game. Meet in the music room at 4:30 pm in your formal gowns/tuxedos, with a sack dinner or money for food at the stadium. The bus will leave from the stadium back to school at 8:40, so we should be back by 9:00 pm or so. You will get in to the game for free, but parents will have to purchase tickets at the door. The music room will be open after school for a couple of hours for study hall purposes, so feel free to just hang out and do homework there.

Lastly, happy Thanksgiving to all of you! I am thankful for the days I get to spend making music with such an inspiring group of young people. Thank you for working so hard and giving so much of yourself in order to bring the joy of music to others- what a gift!
