Listen to the following three examples. Then, based on the overall piece, comment back with which performance was the strongest (and why) and which you felt needed more refinement (and why).

I think the third one is the strongest one. It feels like their voices are more deeper and have more power. They have many space opend on back of their mouth and their ege are also older, I think that's also the reason why it sounds better.I think they really use their head voice and the way that they sing this song make it really "Bach". They sing it more smooth and make it really fluen. You can even image the picture, people are dancing elegantly. Just like ocean or river, sometimes it is strong sometimes it soft but it just flow all the way down.
ReplyDeleteI think the first and second are both really good especially they are really young. And I think they just sounds too young and the second one will need more refinement. Because I think the second sometimes sing it too strong not smooth enough especially soprano at the high and long note.

They are also older than the others, I think that is also part of the reason that they sounds better. The way they sing that song also make it really "Bach", you can even image the picture out, people in the past dressing fancy and dance elegantly. They sing it really smooth, it sounds like the ocean or river, sometimes it is strong but not that strong and then they come back soft again but it just so fluent, the water flow all the way down, nothing cut it off.
ReplyDeleteI think the fist and second one also really good too especially they are so young. I think the second one need more refinement. They sound really good at first but I think in the middle part, they make it too strong especially sprano's high and long note. I feel they should make ir more smoothly.

I felt that all of the examples were good in there own way but example #3 was the strongest and example #1 was the weakest.
ReplyDeleteI almost chose example #2 as the strongest due to the video quality of #3 but after overlooking that, I decided #3 was the best. Example #3 gave me everything that I expected out of the Bach piece. The sounds were a darker color and you could tell that it was performed by a more experienced choir. I felt that the tempo was good and all of the voices mixed well. I also really liked the accompaniment of #3.
Example #1 was the weakest because you could tell that they were a younger choir and I envisioned a very light color as I was listening to the piece. It was good that it sounded angelic but I feel that a darker, richer sound would better suit the piece. In addition, I didn't really like the accompaniment of the first example.
Despite it being a childrens choir, example #2 was able to sound darker than the first example. I liked them because they were able to sound angelic and bold at the same time. I think that they need to refine their entrences and exits to make them more defined. In addition, I think that they shold lift their soft palates to create a fuller, richer sound but still keep the angelic tone.

I feel that the first example was strongest. They knew where they had to breath and did not fade out and take a breath when it was unnecessary. Also, they had all their parts down for such a young class, kudos to them. They sounded a lot older and refined for their age, they definetly lifted their soft palate and created a nice rich tone. They never lost energy.
ReplyDeleteThe one that needed more refinement was the 2nd example. They did not lift the soft palate and ended up going sharp in some areas. Also, their breathing was in accurate and they would fade out when it was a forte.
The 3rd example was good, however they did not have very good dynamics and were a very weak choir. They kept it all the same and did not forte at certain points of the song when forte was needed, therefore the dynamics were weak and the song had no depth to it.

ReplyDeleteI will pick example number 2. Choir of the example 3 sounded professional and mature the most. However, personally, I liked unique voice of children's choir. They balanced the volume between soprano and alto well. Especially, I liked alto's voice because it is not deep as choir #3 but still got the right notes. Not only their vowel was clear enough to hear, but also soparno's dynamic between note wass also impressive. Over all, I liked the innocent, high, or clear voice of the children's choir, balance, and their dynamics.
Even though all the three choirs sound great to me, I felt choir of example number one need refinement the most because they sounded little young compare to the other two. Also, I felt as the song goes, soparno is getting louder. I think quality of sound affet me to think this way. Also the instrument they used was not typically my favoirte. Therefore, the choir was pretty good, but the compare to other two, I felt example number 1 need more refinement in terms of vowel and little bit of balance as the song flows.
I think Example #2 was much better out of the overall because it flowed well together and they all sound in unison with each other.

The first two examples sound very in key and have breathing places and they must have had to memorize their music for these performances. They sound great. Also those first two must have great piano, flute players playing along with them. The third example also has great breathing places and they must have great piano and flute and must have worked really hard on this piece.
ReplyDeletethis choir had good vowels and sounded older than they actually were. but it was not the best

I realized I messed up on the comments. I liked number three the best because they had more dynamics and more accents on notes as well as great vowels.

I liked the second choir the best because i could tell that their soft pallets were raised and they were able to clearly pronounce all the words, I felt like the alto's in the 1st choir didn't sound as strong as the soprano's did.

All three of them sounded very good! I loved each one of them(especially the second one). All of them were very unison and harmonized well. The second one ims more dynamic. It gradually becomes dynamic and I feel like there are more people in the 2nd one. Third one sounded mor like adults and they were actually 20s choir. 3rd sounded more like they were opened and soft- pallets were lifted up more than other choirs. I could also recognize my parts(alto) when I was listening to it.

ReplyDeleteBoth choirs from Tapiola and California were very strong, but I think Tapiola was the strongest. The pace of the song was nice and consistent throughout the whole song and it was not too fast. The singers also used their breaths very well and exhibited dynamics very well. It was nice to clearly hear the different dynamics from soft to loud.
ReplyDeleteI think the performance that needed more refinement was Jacksonville Children's Choral. Their pace of the song was a little fast and it seemed a bit rushed when they were singing. I felt like they needed to work on their dynamics because to me it sounded all in the same medium-loud tone.

I personally thought that example #2 was the best because it was well put together and the voices mixed perfectly together to make the right sound. It was Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteall were wonderful but i think that example #1 could use a little work, they are young but did a great job!

I think the 3rd example was the best. They had good technique, vowels, tone and it sounded together. They also sung at different length. The 1st an second example were good but sounded the same. They had a mature sound but it didn't have length or different tone quality
